SimsUshare Command Training Center

The SimsUshare Command Training Center (CTC) is a healthcare simulation training solution that includes a virtual incident command simulator, fire simulator, Hazmat simulator, safety simulator and command training center. Founded in 2000, SimsUshare solutions offer a safe way for learners to improve training and skills on all fire and command hazards while maintaining patient safety. SimsUshare aims to improve the development and use of fire and safety simulations across learning environments for learners of all skill levels.

Learners tend to be highly engaged through hands-on educational exercises and healthcare simulations because they can see themselves performing the skills (and identifying weaknesses to address). Many of them learn through doing, especially when the clinical situations revolve around real-world and potential incidents in their jurisdiction. Knowledge, skills and abilities that are developed and maintained using SimsUshare translate to real-work performance improvement in the field.

With the SimsUshare CTC, educators can easily and rapidly create all-hazard training simulations using their own photos. They can choose to add realistic smoke, fire and other effects to create an unlimited number of incidents. With these features, learners can practice command, size-up, planning, and decision-making, which can degrade as they are perishable skills.

Using the included SimsUshare Command Training Center (CTC) package, educators can divide their learners into single resources, groups or divisions, and give them views of the incident in which they can navigate independently. The educator can control the entire simulation from a single master dashboard via the internet. They can even conduct continuing education from a remote location, which learners can access from any place with an internet connection. With purchase of the additional “On-Site” server, they can operate the solution without the internet.

Other features of the SimsUshare Command Training Center include users being able to connect and control multiple units in the same exercise. With simulation participants able to stay in their stations, departments can minimize the need for backfill and logistic expenses. The solution is configurable with multiple or unlimited number of units and concurrent exercises, and comes without tedious or lengthy installation.

Further aiding simulator learners, SimUShare hosts content-focused workshops such as using simulators for the assessment process, officer development and public education, among others. These simulation events involve showing the educator how to develop simulations to support the topic, which can be taught at their location or online.

Headquartered in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, SimsUshare also offers consulting, development and design services for organizational promotional exams. The SimsUshare staff has extensive experience in all aspects of promotional exams using simulation software. To date, SimsUshare staff has designed and conducted over 40 promotional exams, ranging from Lieutenant to Fire Chief, for small and large departments, which includes civil service and union organizations. The company offers the following services:

  • Consulting
  • Photography
  • Scenario Design
  • Storyboard Design
  • Examiner Grading Documents
  • Scenario Design Review

SimsUshare conducts the initial consultation; a midlevel review of the scenario and any associated purchased services; and a final consultation review upon submission of the purchased services. The customer is then required to sign for acceptance of the final product based on the services requested, agreeing to accept full responsibility for the outcome of the promotional exam.

The SimsUshare CTC is very IT-friendly because the solution only requires a browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Safari) and no per-machine installs, fees or complications. It can run either on the internet or on a private LAN network (we call this the “SimsUshare On-Site server”). The training center simulations are stored in a secure cloud database or on each local network, making it easy to distribute and share simulations across a department.

To spread awareness about the SimsUshare Command Training Center mission and its available fire and hazard training solutions, the company hosts a variety of educational webinars. These webinars explore topics such as “How to Conduct Remote All-Hazards Training.” SimUshare is also often in attendance at many healthcare simulation conferences, such as those hosted by SimGHOSTS, INACSL, ASPiH, SESAM, and the International Meeting for Simulation in Healthcare (IMSH) from the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSiH).

SimsUshare’s Fire Sim Development Platform

The heart of the SimsUshare Command Training Center (CTC) focuses on enabling two important capabilities for fire and hazard training. In the SimCloud, the user can easily share their simulations among their devices (including iOS and Android) and with their colleagues via a private, cloud-based storage repository. With one click, users’ simulations are embeddable in emails, webpages, and learning management systems.

The other important capability is the Multi-Company exercises users can conduct. In these exercises, the user can control multiple participants’ screens via a webpage or web app, thereby permitting multi-company drills. This is because the included functionality works over the internet, so the user can conduct the exercise remotely. Crews and learners can stay in their stations, offices, or homes as a result.

SimsUshare Platinum is the company’s fire simulation development and playback application, which is at the heart of the SimsUshare ecosystem. The application can be used in minutes and is powerful enough to create realistic, challenging branching-logic and timed-evolution simulations for most sized incidents. The fire sim builder app is available on Windows, Mac, iOS and Android, and runs on regular devices without specialized or costly graphics hardware.

The SimsUshare Command Training Center’s Cloud Training Management is a convenient and innovative way to conduct computerized “tabletop” exercises. During these exercises the educator can control multiple learners participating in the virtual incident/fire ground in the same room or across your first-due area.

Additionally, SimsUshare has a new learning portal, SimsUshare Academy, to help learners advance their SimsUshare simulation development skills quickly and consistently. The Academy features free courses for three levels of simulation developer skills. These can be used to help an educator’s department’s personnel create and edit simulations together, and at the highest level at which they feel comfortable.
