CAE Healthcare Basic Lifesaving Manikin Supports Valuable Training

Learning life-saving techniques isn’t limited to medical professionals. Every day, good Samaritans around the world leap to the aid of those in respiratory distress. To be able to save lives when faced with emergency situations, people around the world can use CPR or basic life-saving training. Through a new program among CAE Healthcare and its partners, that training just got a whole lot easier to accomplish, from start-up to certification. The program uses a smart manikin, so learners can practice in a risk-free environment, be evaluated, get Red Cross certified, and be ready when an emergency arises. This HealthySimulation.com article details how the new CAE Healthcare basic lifesaving manikin, which is being offered by HealthStream in healthcare environments, can also be used by others through a complementary American Red Cross Resuscitation Suite curriculum that can also be used for instructorless resuscitation certification.

Through the CAE Healthcare partners, this program expands options for organizations seeking resuscitation training and certification. As an example, HealthStream is one organization offering this basic life-saving program. HealthStream has certified the smart manikin, ensuring its compatibility, security, and interoperability within HealthStream’s growing suite of applications.

“For decades, CAE has been the global leader in high-fidelity simulation training at simulation centers around the globe,” said Jeff Evans, Interim President, CAE Healthcare. “Through these new partnerships, we are further expanding the services we offer. This new manikin and the options it provides will improve resuscitation training where it is most needed. This is one more way CAE Healthcare is helping elevate patient safety and enhance quality of care.”

To obtain a Red Cross certification, a learner must demonstrate that they have both the knowledge and the skills to resuscitate a patient. After completing the knowledge assessment, the learner then progresses to the skills assessment, where a smart manikin is used for the evaluation. Results are measured objectively through technology that is built into the manikin itself and not subject to human error or bias.

When a learner is ready to assess their resuscitation skills, they access the manikin through the relevant learning platform, and the manikin provides the results directly in the platform. If a learner demonstrates the appropriate resuscitation skill level on the manikin, they will automatically earn a certificate from the American Red Cross.

“CAE continues to represent the cutting-edge in simulation technology across multiple industries—and we are pleased they chose HealthStream as their partner for the launch of their exciting, new manikin for healthcare professionals,” said Robert A. Frist, Jr., Chief Executive Officer, HealthStream.
CAE Healthcare and Healthstream are offering demonstrations of this new program. The companies plan to have the first commercial shipment of manikins early in the second quarter of 2023.
