Federation in Latin America of Clinical Simulation (FLASIC) Opens Biennial Congress in Cancun
Federación Latinoamericana de Simulación Clínica y Seguridad del Paciente, aka FLASIC, is the Federation Organization of Medical Simulation Societies from Latin countries in the Western hemisphere. Today in Cancun, Mexico the 6th Biennial FLASIC Congresso Latinoamericano de Simulacion Clinica opened with 300 attendees from across North, Central and South America and the World. About Federación Latinoamericana de Simulación Clínica (FLASIC)
In 2007 the Latin American Society for Simulation in Healthcare (ALASIC) was founded by members from different Northern, Central and South American countries with the idea of building collaboration and networking from across the continent. In 2017, the FLASIC organization was born from ALASIC to act a federation of smaller regional simulation societies, which now maintains almost 1,000 members from 7 different societies who can collaborate and share via an online network.
Cancun Congress Event October 30 – November 1st
Every 2 years FLASIC holds its biennial conference with the 2019 being held in Cancun today through November 1st. The event is host to numerous workshops, lectures, posters, and an exhibit hall, all in an all inclusive hotel right on the beach!
Keynote speakers include José Maestre from Spain, speaking on simulation faculty development, Marlova Silva from Chile speaking on simulation implementation, Roger Daglius from Brazil speaking on clinical simulation innovation, and Grl. Dr. Octavio Ruíz from Mexico speaking on leadership in healthcare simulation.
The organizing committee of the Latin American Congress of Clinical Simulation 2019 Cancun invites the community to participate clinical simulation with scientific papers or workshops, with keynote lectures already planned from:
- Dr. Octavio Ruiz Speare: Leadership in Simulation in Healthcare.
- Dr. Roger Daglius Dias: Innovation in Medical Simulation
- Dr. Jose Maria Maestre: Faculty training in Healthcare simulation
- Lic. Marlova Silva Breuer: Implementation of a Clinical simulation project
- Esmerita Ignacia Opazo Moralez: Development and evaluation of transversal skills with the use of simulated patient.
- Juan Manual Gimenez: Development of simulators, low – cost 3D printing for undergraduate and graduate practices.
About the FLASIC Journal (English)
Simulation research in Latin America has grown considerably in the lat few years. Due to the challenges of publishing research for their primarily-Spanish speaking members in english journals, the organization has developed its own journal to support simulation to latin speaking audiences. The new journal already has 3 publications produced with 3 planned per year.

Lance Baily, BA, EMT-B, is the Founder & CEO of HealthySimulation.com, which he started while serving as the Director of the Nevada System of Higher Education’s Clinical Simulation Center of Las Vegas back in 2010. Lance is also the Founder and current Chairman of the Board of SimGHOSTS.org, the world’s only non-profit organization dedicated to supporting professionals operating healthcare simulation technologies. His new co-edited Book: “Comprehensive Healthcare Simulation: Operations, Technology, and Innovative Practice” is available now. Lance’s background includes serving as a Simulation Technology Specialist for the LA Community College District, EMS fire fighting, Hollywood movie production, rescue diving, and global travel. He lives with his wife Abigail in Las Vegas, Nevada.
