Extended Early-Bird: Upcoming TraumaSim 3 CE Moulage Course Unlocks Next Week

The HealthySimulation.com platform “LEARN” periodically hosts a number of informative healthcare simulation courses. These courses are designed to provide insight into a variety of topics related to clinical simulation, including education, training, and practice. On January 12, 2022 at 2 PM PST, HealthySimulation.com will launch TraumaSIM‘s 3 CE Introduction to Moulage course and optional kit. This course is designed to whet learners’ appetite for moulage and provide them with the skills needed to provide quality professional moulage for medical simulations. To encourage all healthcare simulation learners and educators to participate in this course, today is the last day extended until Friday! to register using our Early Bird Code.

As an overview of this upcoming course subject, moulage (French for casting or molding) is defined as the art of applying mock injuries or medical cues for the purpose of training clinical professionals. Medically accurate moulage is vital to modern healthcare simulation and is used to add realism and enhance any training scenario or medical simulation. Quality moulage generates learner focus, ‘buy-in,’ and evokes a realistic stress response getting the learners closer to the real world. Moulage should align with the appropriate mechanism of injury and student outcomes to be useful and purposeful rather than a distraction.

This 3 CE hour introductory moulage course workshop, developed by TraumaSIM and uniquely recorded for HealthySimulation.com, will take participants through planning their moulage to best fit their learners’ needs. Every supply and tool they need to engage in this course is included in the Moulage kit, shipping anywhere in the United States (and available via additional shipping charge globally). TraumaSIM highly recommends that anyone new to moulage also secure the kit in order to maximize their training outcomes.

This course has a strong focus on safety and using professional-grade products to keep staff and learners safe from injury or allergic reaction and they and their workplace safe from litigation. The highly experienced TraumaSim team (who now also oversee MilitaryMoualge.com) has been delivering moulage services and workshops to a variety of military, medical, and emergency response personnel around the world since 2008.

In this introductory course, the team will discuss a range of moulage mediums to better understand the styles of moulage that can be utilized. Spanning three hours, TraumaSIM efficiently takes learners through moulage materials options looking at the pros and cons of each type of product. The team also teaches participants to step-by-step how to create a range of injuries such as bruises, shock and cyanosis, burns, open fractures, and lacerations to apply to their Standardized Patients (aka Simulated Patients) or simulated patient manikins.

TraumaSIM’s Introduction to Moulage Course & Optional Kit Early Bird Code:

One learning objective of this course is to be able to show an understanding of how to safely plan moulage for a healthcare simulation educational or training experiences, including examples of safety considerations. Another objective is to come to understand how simulated moulage makeup can be used in clinical simulation experiences to improve clinical patient outcomes. Upon completion of the course, learners will be able to list common applications of simulation in healthcare. Lastly, learners can expect to be able to create a realistic bruise using crème makeup on a human model or manikin, and a realistic open laceration using a wax-based moulage and simulated blood products by the conclusion of the course.
