Abstract:
Three trends are coming together that may be of use to healthcare simulation educators. First, the importance of synthetic worlds is increasingly important in training and to designing new systems and services. Secondly, lockdown has forced educationalist around the world to go on-line at speed, which has precipitated developments that have been researched for decades. Third and finally, it is becoming easier to express the value for money in healthcare and this may help simulation staff to justify their efforts and skills in quantitative terms. In combination, these trends offer a unique opportunity to develop the field rapidly by using developments from elsewhere, but also mean that this community has more to offer to others.
Learning Objectives:
- To understand simulation and simulators within a wider context of systems and education.
- To understand a little more of how other sectors have used simulation historically.
- To understand how value-for-money calculations may be applied in this sector to produce robust business cases.
