Abstract:
Providing students with end-of-life (EOL) and patient death simulations is essential, especially in healthcare, social work, and palliative care. Helping students recognize all aspects of EOL care is valuable for learners, not only for their job duties but also for their own professional identity integration and their own personal inner journeys. Depending on the course objectives and outcomes, these medical simulations can enhance empathy, and create an understanding of what EOL care is and what patient death can look like. End-of-life simulations are invaluable in preparing students to handle the challenges, emotions, and complexities of patient death with self-care. End of Life sims provide an opportunity to develop knowledge and practical skills, enhance self-care, and increase cultural and ethical awareness for nursing and other healthcare professionals. This CE webinar will highlight the value of End-of-Life healthcare simulations for healthcare professionals.
Learning Objectives:
- Recognize the value end-of-life and patient death simulations can have for clinical learners.
- Understand the personal, professional, legal, and ethical issues associated with end-of-life care of patients.
- Understand the difference between healthcare simulation to enhance care skills versus clinical simulation to support healthcare learners’ inner journey.
