Abstract:
As if staffing wasn’t already difficult, COVID-19 has made training, certifying and hiring qualified providers an even greater challenge. Research shows more than half of employers report hiring employees that don’t meet entry-level competency. It’s the “meat in seats” mentality to just hire anybody that applies, even if they lack the critical thinking skills for the job.
Online, immersive training platforms like VRpatients are assisting agencies with administrative tasks involving entry-level competency testing or evaluation of critical thinking skills of new and experienced providers. In this webinar, Christina Keatley, NRP and co-founder of MedUltra Learning, discusses how online training simulation applications like VRpatients are helping agencies overcome administrative hiring challenges such as:
- Pre-employment screening for entry-level competency
- Orientation to immerse new employees into medical and trauma treatment protocols, policies, and procedures.
- Assist with formative and summative assessments within a Field Training Evaluation Program (FTEP)
- Supplemental case studies for in-house continuing education
- Release-to-Practice Evaluations with the Medical Director
- Competency testing to evaluate progress in Performance Improvement Plans (PIPS), Medical Review Board cases, Corrective Actions, etc.
Learning Objectives:
- Dentify common pandemic pitfalls found in the training process of newly hired EMS providers.
- Understand how to apply immersive training to evaluate entry-level competency for pre-employment.
- Describe how invaluable EMS simulation training can be for preparing new hires for the field (i.e. exposure to high risk, low frequency cases).
