Abstract:
Professional healthcare students often have difficulty understanding complex clinical concepts in a traditional didactic format. However, innovative teaching methods allow visual and kinesthetic learners the experiential opportunity to comprehend and apply these concepts to patient care using clinical simulation. Scaffolding the concept from didactic, to skills lab, and then a healthcare simulation scenario assists the learners to comprehend the concept. This CE presentation will explore strategies to improve clinical teaching for healthcare students by scaffolding the learning opportunities into the clinical education curriculum.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify some complex concepts for integration of didactic and experiential learning opportunities.
- Verbalize at least two strategies for improving clinical education.
- Explore how to transition traditional didactic presentation to experiential opportunities for complex clinical concepts.
