Abstract:
Healthcare is a dynamic field with ever-evolving complexities, demanding simulation-based professionals to stay abreast of technological advancements, evolving practices, and enhanced understanding for optimal patient-centric care. The healthcare simulationist, whether in an educational or an operational position, plays a pivotal role within the interdisciplinary care team. Currently, there is a void in structured professional development for healthcare simulationsist, although it is imperative to equip simulationsist with the necessary education and training to enhance the quality and validity of simulation-based education (Nestel, et al., 2016).
This CE webinar will share the presenter’s created tool which acts as a roadmap for individuals entering an entry-level position, providing a path for professional development and promotional opportunities within a simulation center or career advancement. Furthermore, experienced simulationists can utilize this tool to identify the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed for their ongoing professional development and career progression. Additionally, by improving their clinical simulation knowledge and skillsets, clinical simulation educators and staff members can improve the clinical learning and training outcomes of simulation participants.
This instrument leverages Discovery, Growth, and Maturity stages to guide individuals through each professional development criterion. Each stage encompasses foundational areas of knowledge, skills, and attitudes, accompanied by suggested activities that progressively build upon the elements of the preceding stage, meeting the standards outlined in the HSSBP: Professional Development.
Learning Objectives:
- Learn how the professional development of clinical simulation educators and staff can improve clinical learning and training outcomes.
- List the foundational stages of the scaffold approach professional development tool for the education and operation medical simulation position.
- Discuss the three necessary criteria for the simulationist to fulfill the Healthcare Simulation Standards of Best Practice: Professional Development.
