Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The School of Nursing (SON) has an outstanding legacy of serving the people of southeastern N.C. through education, scholarship, and service. The SON is dedicated to excellence in the development of health care professionals through in-depth education, professional partnerships, applied research, regional engagement, and community outreach and impact.
The SON is located in McNeill Hall, a state-of-the-art facility that includes offices, classrooms, a large lecture hall, computer laboratories, student success areas and learning commons, and the Simulation Learning Center. The Simulation Learning Center uses high, medium, and low fidelity human patient simulators as teaching and learning tools for nursing education. Through the use of simulation, we strive to create a realistic environment and a powerful learning experience that promotes cognitive, affective, physical, and social development of the student, as well as the incorporation of inter-professional collaborative experiences for students across the degree programs in the College.
The SON offers the following degree programs:
Nursing
- BS in Nursing (Prelicensure, RN-BSN online)
- MS in Nursing (Nurse Educator)
- Post-Master’s Certificate in Family Nurse Practice
- DNP (Family Nurse Practitioner, Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, Nurse Executive Leadership, and Post-APRN concentrations)

Over 2,500 undergraduate and nearly 600 graduate students are enrolled
in programs within the SON. Currently, the SON has approximately 80 full-time faculty. The SON’s online master’s degree in nursing education is ranked 9th among 2022’s “Best Online Master’s in Nursing Education Programs” by US News & World Report.

Brief Summary of Work for this Position
- Providing technical and mechanical support for all simulations, skill labs, and other lab activities
- Managing, operating, and regulating the maintenance of mannequins, medical equipment, automated medication dispensing systems, and software programs
- Managing the simulation lab equipment by charging and rebooting hardware and regulating the operation and maintenance of audiovisual (A/V) equipment
- Troubleshooting equipment malfunctions and communicating issues with the Simulation Lab Coordinator, vendors, and University maintenance as needed
- Collaborating with simulation and University partners around simulation technology issues and developing written policy and procedures for simulation technology related matters
- Supervising and managing student workers
- Training and oversight of student workers, simulation staff, faculty and visitors
- Cross-training to other simulation responsibilities
- Supporting the simulation learning center, Simulation Lab Coordinator, and school by performing all other duties as assigned
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school diploma, technical college degree or an individual with progressive work experience in healthcare simulation.
Preferred education, professional skills and experience
Preference will be given to those who possess the following:
- Associate or baccalaureate degree in biomedical science, computer science, health care science (i.e. nursing, respiratory therapy, etc.), or related field
- Experience in simulation operation/education/training, preferably with human patient simulator platforms and audiovisual equipment/operating software
- Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) certification
