Simulation Specialist

Rhode Island Office of the Postsecondary Commissioner (OPC) invites applications for Simulation Specialist. This is a full-time, academic-year position with a pay grade of 8. It’s a nonunion, non-classified position that reports to the manager of simulation and technology. The simulation specialist is responsible for the operation and maintenance of all simulation equipment at Rhode Island Nursing Education Center (RINEC).

RINEC is a postsecondary nursing instruction facility, shared by Rhode Island College and University of Rhode Island, for undergraduate and graduate coursework. It is managed and staffed by OPC.

Essential duties

  • Develop technical proficiency for all aspects of the operation, maintenance, support, troubleshooting and repair of the simulation equipment at RINEC.
  • Interface with vendors to troubleshoot equipment and systems problems.
  • Maintain all simulation equipment and ensure that all supplies are ordered/available in a timely manner.
  • Maintain cleanliness and order of the simulation and skills lab spaces.
  • Assist in the set-up of simulation equipment and other learning technologies to meet curricula needs.
  • Operate computer hardware, audio-visual recording/capturing systems, and simulation equipment.
  • Identify and implement solutions to problems related to simulation equipment, computer hardware, and software in a timely manner.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience
A bachelor’s degree in a healthcare field, technology field and/or engineering field is required together with a minimum of one year’s experience working in a simulation center and/or health care setting.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Ability to work non-standard hours is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work on multiple activities and a wide variety of simulation technology simultaneously.
  • Proficiency with PC and Mac.
  • Ability to operate video cameras, digital cameras, and microphones.
  • Ability to interact professionally with students, faculty, and staff; maintaining confidentiality related to student performance and simulation experiences.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience in a higher education environment
  • Experience in a simulation center
  • Experience in a health care/media learning environment

Environmental conditions
Office and clinical simulation lab environment. Varied laboratory conditions involving mechanical, electrical, and lifting hazards. Includes work with medical equipment including latex based products.
