The University of Virginia’s School of Nursing seeks a Simulation Specialist. Reporting directly to the Clinical Simulation Learning Center Director, the Simulation Specialist will provide support for simulation based educational activities occurring at the CSLC for a wide range of learners including nursing students and inter-professional health students and practitioners.

Reporting directly to the Clinical Simulation Learning Center Director, the Simulation Specialist will provide support for simulation based educational activities occurring at the CSLC for a wide range of learners including nursing students and inter-professional health students and practitioners.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides training and serves as a resource for staff utilizing simulation equipment.
  • Responsible for set-up of all simulation sessions, including room environment, simulators, equipment, supplies, and any necessary moulage of patient simulators or standardized patients.
  • Conduct simulation sessions for learners, as required.
  • Responsible for breakdown after simulation sessions, returning rooms, simulators and equipment to previous states.
  • Conduct routine equipment and simulator maintenance based on vendor guidelines and recommendations.
  • Work with Center Director to maintain digital A/V hardware and software systems.
  • Develops technical proficiency with all aspects of the operation, maintenance, support, trouble- shooting, and repair of all of the simulation center and associated equipment within one year of hiring, including:
    • Laerdal, and Gaumard computer-driven human simulator systems;
    • Life-support systems, and physiologic monitors;
    • Personal computers and peripherals;
    • Audiovisual and wireless communication system.
  • Maintain proficiency in existing and emerging technologies, participate in training, and attend conferences for professional development and continuing education.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned.
  • Work at night and/or on weekends, as required.

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in a healthcare or science related field OR an equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Working familiarity with principles of electronics, audio-video components, computers, and peripheral devices.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in dynamic environment with diverse clientele.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • 2 years of experience in Simulation Based Education preferred
  • Preference will be given to applicants with experience working in a healthcare setting
  • Certified Health Care Simulation Operations Specialist certification highly preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to lift and position simulation equipment up to 75 pounds.
  • Able to maneuver in small places over cords and other obstructions.

The anticipated hiring range is: $55,000 – $61,000

The Selected candidate will have to successfully complete a background check prior to employment per University policy.
