Job Title:  Nursing Simulation and Lab Technician

Reporting to the Director of Simulation and Clinical Laboratories, the Nursing Simulation and Clinical Laboratory Specialist is responsible for maintaining operations within the simulation center and clinical laboratories. Primary responsibilities are facilitating simulation scenarios, maintaining the clinical laboratory and simulation center space and technology, training faculty, staff, and students on the use of the space and equipment, and providing administrative support for the program.

Job description:

  • Facilitating simulation scenario execution
  • Facilitate training sessions to ensure that faculty members are knowledgeable to provide basic operation of all clinical equipment
  • Operate both simulators and AV equipment during student learning and faculty training scenarios
  • Prepares and maintains labs and simulated patient care environments with equipment, supplies, media, computers, and materials needed to replicate a simulated healthcare setting
  • Operates and maintains computerized and non-computerized simulation
  • Participates in planning and scheduling learning spaces for students and faculty by ensuring open lab and structured lab utilization times are available, communicated, and appropriately resourced
  • Developing, implementing, and evaluating protocols and policies related to simulation and learning lab operations under the direction of and in collaboration with the Simulation Director
  • Training simulation users in simulation activities, operation of patient simulators, audio-visual equipment, and their maintenance
  • Coordinating maintenance of patient simulators, part-task trainers, and virtual equipment
  • Providing administrative support 
  • Provide tours of the simulation space to prospective students and distinguished visitors
  • Perform respirator (N95) fit testing for students
  • Other duties as assigned


  • BSN from a regionally accredited educational institution and current unrestricted license to practice as a registered nurse in Virginia or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., Information Technology, Computer Science, Education, or Healthcare disciplines, etc.)
  • Minimum of two years full-time clinical experience as a registered nurse or related field (e.g., Information Technology, Computer Science, Education, or Healthcare disciplines, etc.)
  • Prior experience in a simulation lab is preferred
  • Accomplished using Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.);
  • Ability to troubleshoot hardware/software issues
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • As a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI), bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English is highly regarded and considered a valuable asset for this position
