Still Time to Register Virtually for SimGHOSTS 2021 Sim Technology Conference | August 3-6, 2021
The Gathering of Healthcare Simulation Technology Specialists (SimGHOSTS) hosts the organization’s 2021 conference next week from August 3 to 6, 2021 in Fort Wayne, Indiana at the Parkview Mirro Center for Research and Innovation — but there is also still time to register and participate virtually! Across both versions (online vs in-person), participants can expect to explore new products, technologies and techniques from leading industry partners. Further, attendees will come to discover new strategies to improve healthcare quality and safety through healthcare simulation. There’s still time to participate!
For the virtual version, interested attendees should download the Whova event app and select their sessions in the agenda. SimGHOSTS will ship a box of supplies with everything they need for the event. Hybrid online attendees can expect to similarly participate in the conference program, engage in practical workshops with materials delivered to you, join in live Q&A sessions, and join the exhibit hall livestream for demonstrations of the latest simulation technologies. There will be time for them to participate in reception escape room activity, mix and mingle remotely and reflect as well.
For this event, SimGHOSTS has partnered with the Society for Simulation in Healthcare to host the Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) testing and the official CHSOS Readiness Review Course. Together, they will also host a half-day pre-conference workshop titled: CHSOS-A Professional Development: How to Present Yourself in an Academic World.
SimGHOSTS 2021 Sessions
Plenary – Improving Training of Military Healthcare Professionals: Defense Medical Modeling and Simulation Office: DMMSO will provide an overview of the history of medical simulation, overall medical modeling and simulation in the DoD, establishment and organization structure of the office, the Defense Health Agency’s transition of medical treatment facilities from the Services and overview of the Service simulation programs of the AF, Navy and Army.
P4 CHSOS-A and Professional Development – How to present yourself in an academic world: Healthcare simulation is largely ingrained in academia. The opportunities for growth and advancement in this field have been preferentially designed for educators with clinical or educational degrees. Professional groups have sought avenues for recognition and advancement specific to the healthcare simulation technology specialist role, even if it does not include a traditional academic or healthcare background. This workshop will review methods to attain and document professional growth to support advancement in the field of healthcare simulation.
This session will provide a specific focus on the background and creation of the CHSOS-A certification and how to prepare an impactful application to seek certification. Its learning objectives include:
- Understanding methods of achieving and documenting activities that demonstrate professional development and leadership.
- Constructing scholarly presentations that will get accepted.
- Creating an impactful application for CHSOS-A or other professional opportunities.
SimGHOSTS Conference Keynote Address
This year’s SimGHOSTS healthcare simulation conference keynote speaker is Kavya Pearlman, an award-winning cybersecurity professional well-known as the “Cyber Guardian.” As the founder and CEO of the XR Safety Initiative (XRSI), she has a deep interest in immersive and emerging technologies. During her presentation titled “Medical XR in the Era of Constant Reality Capture,” she will share actionable advice with the medical XR industry.
Her advice will offer insights into creating safe medical XR ecosystems to move from research prototypes and early demonstrators to secure, reliable and trustworthy systems that can play a more significant role in using XR for promoting patients’ health. Pearlman will also share an exclusive announcement and XRSI’s Medical XR Advisory Council’s work with the industry. According to SimGHOSTS, this talk will help create a shared understanding of navigating uncharted XR and spatial computing territories to enable responsible innovation and research in the medical XR domain.
