SimGHOSTS Announces Kavya Pearlman as Keynote Speaker for USA Conference
The annual USA SimGHOSTS Conference will open with a keynote address, “Medical XR in the Era of Constant Reality Capture” from XR Safety Initiative (XRSI) founder and CEO, Kavya Pearlman. For those who use augmented reality, virtual reality or mixed reality in their clinical simulation program, they need to know about how data is collected, used and stored so that they can protect the safety and privacy of their patients and learners.
In her keynote address, Pearlman will explore how healthcare is intersecting with XR and spatial computing, and the novel risks and opportunities the technology brings. XR expands the definition of personal information that must be protected, including biometrically-inferred data, which is especially prevalent in XR data pipelines. She will share the need to create new rules for information exchange, and to create transparency and accountability around the information collected. Equally important is the need to understand what’s being collected, how it is used, and how the information is shared.
Given the potential immersion of XR experiences and the breadth of sensitive information available to XR hardware, informed consent in the medical XR domain is critical. Additionally, Pearlman will share an exclusive announcement and XRSI’s Medical XR Advisory Council’s work with the industry. In the era of constant reality capture, the stakes have never been higher for patient privacy and safety. Pearlman’s talk will help create a shared understanding of navigating these uncharted territories to enable responsible innovation and research in the Medical XR domain.

More About SimGHOSTS 2021
The SimGHOSTS USA 2021 Conference is truly a hybrid conference, with a synchronized program that enables in-person and virtual attendees to share the entire conference experience. The event is being held from August 3 to August 6, 2021 at Parkview Mirro Center for Research and Innovation in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Attendees can register risk-free with full refunds and registration transfers available to those impacted by COVID-19 regulations.
Virtual attendees will have their workshop materials shipped to them wherever they are in the world at no extra cost, allowing them to interact and engage with presenters and fellow attendees. They even get to participate in the opening reception with networking, escape room games and refreshments, all from the comfort of their own home. This is how it works:
More About SimGHOSTS
SimGHOSTS, also known as the The Gathering Of Healthcare Simulation Technology Specialists, is an international United States-based non-profit organization. The organization is dedicated to supporting individuals and institutions operating medical simulation technology and spaces through hands-on training events, online resources and professional development.
By offering support and resources to medical simulation professionals, SimGHOSTS hopes to create a healthcare education culture where people are empowered to use simulation technology to improve learning and patient care outcomes. For this reason, SimGHOSTS has created six core values, the first of which is to innovate the world of healthcare simulation and patient safety.
Other organizational core values include advocating for those operating healthcare simulation technology spaces, educating the professional community to improve outcomes and networking with global community members at regional events and online hubs. The last two core values are to engage champions, institutions and organizations, and zeal for the craft of simulation in healthcare throughout the community and profession.
