New Surgical Simulators From 3D Systems – IMSH 2019 Video Interview

At IMSH 2019, toured the SSH exhibit hall to see the latest in Simbionix surgical simulator technologies by stopping by the 3D Systems booth. We got an exclusive on-camera demonstration of these new surgery simulator technologies, including the ARTHRO Mentor express, TEE Express, ANGRIO Mentor Suite, Internventional Ultrasound through the U/S Mentor platform as well as more details about the comprehensive learning system MentorLearn. Watch the video below to see these devices in action!

ARTHRO Mentor Express

This first-to-market portable training solution is designed to help medical professionals learn and perfect surgical procedures for knees, shoulders and hips on a portable and affordable tabletop platform. The ARTHRO Mentor Express has one universal anatomical model that includes knee arthroscopy in Flexed and Extended positions, shoulder arthroscopy in Beach Chair and Lateral positions, and hip arthroscopy in the Supine position. This results in an unmatched all-in-one training solution that is compact and portable for industry product demonstrations as well as orthopedic department training.

TEE Express

This affordable platform is an enhanced self-training tool, design to teach Trans-esophageal Echocardiography (TEE) using a realistic TEE probe. The simulator provides tasks and cases in a full range of pathologies to practice a realistic and comprehensive TEE examination. Trainees can hone their skills to capture the standard views in a didactic environment, use advanced measurements and imaging modes as well as diagnose diverse clinical findings. The benefit of this device is the size — packed in a carr-on suitcase for compact, affordable and easy to setup simulated training with actual modified TEE probes that realistically maneuver for self-learning on a 3D anatomical map in full clinical environments. The clinical cases include valvular pathologies, congenital defects and atrial fibrillation.

ANGIO Mentor Suite

The ANGIO Mentor family of products provides clinicians with various platforms on which to practice endovascular skills and full procedures on realistic fluoroscopic images using the same tools used in real procedures. In addition to the technical skills, clinicians can benefit even more from hands-on training when it is provided in a true to life clinical environment, in a setting that facilitates team training. The ANGIO Mentor Suite is fully backwards compatible and enables operation of the entire Simbionix ANGIO Mentor / PROcedure Rehearsal Studio library of modules (18 ANGIO Mentor endovascular modules to date).

Hands-on practice of endovascular procedures performed under fluoroscopy in the cath lab, interventional suite or an OR, in an extensive and complete virtual reality simulated environment. ANGIO Mentor simulators provide hands-on practice of endovascular procedures performed under fluoroscopy in the cath lab, interventional suite or an OR, in an extensive and complete virtual reality simulated environment. It provides a complete individual and team training solution to learners of all levels and across multiple disciplines, including Interventional Cardiology, Interventional Radiology, Vascular Surgery, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Electrophysiology, Interventional Neuroradiology, Neuro Surgery and Trauma.

The company’s unique technology enables realistic visualization of the anatomy and instrument activity. This technology is combined with a high-end haptic system for visual and tactile feedback, which realistically mimics the look and feel of actual endovascular interventions. An ever expanding library of modules provides an up-to-date curriculum including basic and advanced cases. The system features more than 30 different endovascular procedures and over 230 patient scenarios.

Interventional Ultrasound for U/S Mentor

A first ever 3D virtual training platform for ultrasound guided interventions that provides for learning, training and assessment of technical and procedural skills. The Thoracentesis simulation supports needle access under ultrasound guidance for pleural effusion evaluation and treatment.

he U/S Mentor is a high-end medical simulator for the training of ultrasound-related examinations and interventions. The U/S Mentor offers a multidisciplinary, realistic hands-on training for the ever-growing utilization of ultrasound in medicine especially at point of care (POC) setting. It provides residents, fellows, and practicing physicians an opportunity to acquire and improve their sonography-related skills on a variety of virtual patients. The simulator, is designed to provide the optimal educational environment to reach and demonstrate competency levels.

About MentorLearn – Simulator Cirricula Management, Testing & Debriefing System

MentorLearn is a web based Simulator Curricula Management System, providing the optimal solution for managing simulation based training and education needs for the 3D Systems line of simulators. This easy to use system facilitates performing the administrative tasks of running a training course or workshop. The extensive library of courses includes a library of ready-to-use simulator based courses and a platform to design new ones. Courses may include online didactic content, proficiency based hands-on training and performance review and assessment.

MentorLearn provides for curriculum and proficiency based training through: extensive simulator content is incorporated in the skills training curricula to provide practice in increasing difficulty levels, ready-to-use curricula include expert-derived performance goals established by scientific institutions and demonstrated as effective and customizeable proficiency level benchmarks to provide learners with a curriculum to follow until achieving desired proficiency level.

The advanced debriefing reports of MentorLearn include: comprehensive objective metrics based on educational tools such as OSATS, documentation of participant progress following simulator training, reports with learning curve graphs, in the context of proficiency based curriculum to help learners understand their achieved skill level and the ability to follow and control the training process and learner attendance at all times.
