From Las Vegas, HealthySimulation.com Asks For Your Help To Victims
Dear Readers, almost ten years ago I moved to Las Vegas to direct the Clinical Simulation Center of Las Vegas for the Nevada System of Higher Education. I never dreamed that this “city that never sleeps” would give my life so much opportunity, purpose, and support. Moving here continues to be one of the best things that has ever happened to me professionally, personally, and socially. I have met thousands of wonderful people from around the world, made friends with hundreds of locals, started numerous successful businesses and organizations, as well as met the love of my life.
In a place that attracts millions of visitors a year, you may be surprised to learn that Las Vegas does have a strong community of wonderful people living for miles around the Strip. Yes it is an odd place to live with its aggressively hot summers and gambling nightlife, but something about the electricity of possibility that the next big win or new idea was just around the corner always makes it so fun. I always agreed with my former boss Carolyn Yucha, Dean of the Nursing and Allied Health Programs at UNLV — that Las Vegas “is a place where you can build anything — there is an energy of creativity and willingness here that is hard to find anywhere else in the world”.
I took that lesson to heart, and spent my nights and weekends from 2010-2012 building HealthySimulation.com and SimGHOSTS.org, hoping I could help other champions better learn how to integrate and expand their healthcare simulation programs. Indeed, building something that never existed before has been full of difficult challenges and countless ups and downs. But, throughout it all — always was the support of the friends and family here in Las Vegas to keep me going.
What I am saying is that if you appreciate HealthySimulation.com, then please consider supporting the city that made this resource possible. We are suffering a great deal here and trying to make sense out of something so senseless. We have lost loved ones, community members, cherished visitors, and a sense of safety in a place that tries so hard to be so open for so many.
I have never asked you, our readers, for any financial compensation for the thousands of articles I have written here to help the world become a better place but…
Today, however, I ask you to give to those that have lost so much this week by joining me in donating to the Las Vegas Shooting Victims fund started by Steve Sisolak, Clark County Commission Chair from Las Vegas. The funds will be used to provide relief and financial support to the victims and families of the horrific Las Vegas mass shooting.
I thank you for reading HealthySimulation, and for your support of a great city that made this website possible.
